ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Mick Ward has been living and working in the Northern Rivers area for 30 years and is an established artist of more than 20 years. He has had numerous exhibitions at the Ray Hughes Gallery, Sydney, over the years.

From childhood he has been a “collector” (trading cards, comics, toys, etc.), which has now manifested into his art making process. These collections provide materials for sculpture and assemblage which are fundamentally about the re-presentation of ordinary objects in a new context.

It is appropriate that his work is included in this show because as a Pathology Courier he has been collecting “road debris” for some time now for his sculptures – e.g. “Road Mandalas”.

Mick likens this to being a “road gleaner”.
